Book 1 of the Oolite Saga.
After reading Robert Holdstock s The Dark Wheel as an official introduction to the Elite universe, I was looking for fiction to flesh out the fictional universe of the game Elite Dangerous that I am currently playing Having played the original Elite back in the 80 s, I was interested in reading somewhat chronologically through the Elite fiction and saw Drew Wagar s five book Oolite Saga recommended on the Elite Dangerous forums.
The story here is somewhat similar to that in the Dark Wheel which was clearly a strong inspiration for it It is short and exciting and sets two main protagonists on a perilous interstellar quest to save each other and perhaps the entire Galactic Co operative of Worlds It sets the stage for the coming books in the series, but also stands as an enjoyable read A good, fast read from a promising new Indie writer in the Science Fiction Genre The book drew me in and kept me reading finishing it in less than a day It was the perfect break from the serious history textbooks I normally get bogged down in Moving onto the sequel today The ending was a little anti climactic I thought and that s what knocked it down from 4 stars to 3.
5 for me, but other than that it was very good.
