The storyline in this book involved Caprice trying to help her sister, Nikki, who had become the prime suspect in the death of a business rival she had recently argued with in public, thus leaving her with a perfect motive for murder in the eyes of the police I find the details and vivid descriptions of the home staging Caprice does as well as her retro fashion sense very interesting and something different from the usual cozy mystery genre I am also happy to see Caprice s relationship with Grant evolving, though the little twist in this story was unexpected I like my cozies with a dash of romance and the little romantic breaks in the story do not detract from it in any way in fact, they refresh you to tackle the mystery again which I needed because I sure didn t figure out the murderer in this one Silence of the Lamps is the fifth book 5 in the Caprice De Luca mystery series but you can easily read this as a stand alone mystery It is fun to read them all and find out about the previous mysteries she has solved Caprice is a home stager and interior decorator who just happens to stumble upon dead bodies Because they live in a relatively small town, the suspect usually includes a friend or relative of Caprice, so she can t help but get involved in solving the crime In this book, her sister Nikki was not a friend of the victim and had recently had a public argument with him about stealing one of her recipes They were both caterers in direct competition with one another Caprice begins asking questions and nosing around The she finds out, the suspect list grows exponentially Drew had a lot of enemies Can she solve the crime before her siste great series I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review 2.
5 StarsEarlier this year I read my first Cozy Mystery Kernel of Truth by Kristi Abbott I loved it It was like, murder mystery lite A quaint small town and a regular gal trying to solve a murder mystery After that, I went on a binge entering to win cozy mysteries from Goodreads, and even requesting this cozy mystery from NetGalley However, like all books, no two are created equal, and unfortunately for me, Silence of the Lamps did not reach the bar that Kernel of Truth set.
